Preparing for an Escape Room Adventure
The challenges posed by Escape Rooms will always be unique, so you can’t really be ready for them. If you just agreed to that, then you’re setting yourself up for failure. Regardless of the efforts of escape room designers, they will always repeat certain elements which, if you are keen enough, will help you move to the next step.
Of course, the main idea is to maintain good observation and communication skills even when tensions run high. But on top of that, there are things you can keep in mind as you make sure that next time around, your Escape Room encounter will be yours to conquer.
One typical problem is groups obsessing about one small detail and forgetting that they have an entire room to search for more clues. Multitasking is a good solution. Let some members of your group focus on the toughest parts of the challenge while the others go finding more clues. In general, whenever you feel like you’ve reached a dead end, and disconnect yourself from the frustrating element so you can restore some clarity that you will need to figure out a solution.
Talk and listen to your group.
Good communication is one of the most important requirements of a successful Escape Room experience. If you find something that looks like a clue, whether you’re sure or not, announce it! If you feel you’re almost there with a solution but you need your group mates’ thoughts or opinions, do not hesitate to ask them. By not doing so, you will almost certainly lose the challenge, while engaging with one another will make you all smarter by a mile.
Now remember, you just have a small amount of time to achieve your goal. Wasting one second of that time in a negative mindset only harms your chances further. Fact is, enthusiasm can beat brain power anytime in an Escape Room environment.
Most games are to be solved without having to learn anything beforehand, so your quantum physics degree or ten-year reign as a national chess champion will only make you overthink the mysteries. What does improve your chances of success is a fun and enthusiastic approach. So enjoy every second of the mystery, make the most of the clues you’ve deciphered, and be supportive to team members who may be on a roll. These are some of the most crucial methods of getting the victory you want.
Don’t hesitate to ask for hints.
Some people think asking this request for a hint is like accepting defeat. But defeat is only when time has actually run out. So, kick that pride in the butt and get the hint you need.
